The Agronomy Department at Universidade Estadual de Maringá (Maringá State University), a Public University from Paraná State Government), has been offering since October 2002, the Genetic and Breeding Graduate Program (PGM) - Master Science and Philosophy Doctor. The Genetic and Breeding is the Concentration Area. The Master Science Graduate has an average time of 24 months, whereas for the Philosophy Doctor is requested a minimum period of 36 months. Both degrees, towards to recent-graduates, researchers, and professors, who have major in Crops Science (Agronomy), Biological Sciences, Animal Sciences, and areas related with. The objective of the PGM is giving to the students the opportunity to obtain training in using new evaluation methodologies in Plant Breeding and Quantitative Genetics, Vegetable Genetics, Molecular and Microorganisms Genetics. The PGM was approved on the 25th of July 2002 by the Capes Agency, from Education Ministry of Brazilian Government. Nowadays the PGM is considered a Excellency Level Program according to the Capes Agency (Score 5). The PGM is compounded by the Agronomy; Cell and Genetic Biology and Biochemistry Departments at Maringá State University. The staff of PGM is constituted for 15 permanent professors, all of them have doctorate degree, and work exclusively to the Maringá State University. The PGM receives financial funds, including grants from Capes, from Brazilian Technology Council (CNPq), from Araucária Research Foundation, Paraná Agro-industry, Brazilian Agricultural Research Enterprise (Embrapa), Central Cooperative of Agricultural Research (Coodetec), and from the other Brazilian Government Research Funds (Finep; MEC/SESU), and private enterprises. The Maringá State University is integrated to the others Brazilian Institutions such as Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), Universidade Federal do Paraná (UPR), Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR), Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (UENF), Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL), Universidade Paranaense (Unipar), Universidade Estadual do Centro Oeste (Unicentro), Universidade Estadual do Mato Grosso (Unemat), Instituto Agronômico de Campinas (IAC), Instituto Agronômico do Paraná (Iapar), Cooperativa Central de Pesquisa Agrícola (Coodetec), Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária de Santa Catarina (Epagri), Embrapa Soja, Embrapa Gado de Corte, Embrapa Pantanal, Embrapa Arroz e Feijão, Embrapa Milho e Sorgo, Embrapa Tabuleiros Costeiros.
